The Salty South

Hey, y'all! Greetings from the sticky city of New Orleans! All you do
here is eat and sweat. And shower and nap. It's too hot to do anything
else. Last night, when my fellow Arkansans finally arrived, I
accompanied them to their dinner spot, the Crazy Lobster, though I'd
already eaten my dinner of Cajun vegetables and sweet tea on campus.
These people are hilarious! I also had a great conversation with a
hetero white guy who turns out to be the uncle of one of my Hendrix/
ags friends. We talked at length about the future of the church and
the issues I see as roadblocks, namely gender and sexuality. He was
great; this surprised me, of course, as we know I tend to
underestimate hetero white men.

Classes start today, and I'm still a little nervous. I feel
unqualified to teach this stuff--but I guess I'm here to get
qualified. And to have some fun in the southern sun! This morning we
went for chickory coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde:
